Escapement wheels on first class movements should either be repivoted or replaced. If you are thinking about its use for straightening pivots, I've had some success on train wheels. For the tip of the staff I use a Bergeon 5482 loaded with red rouge. ![]() For polishing I use flat piece of pegwood mixed with clock oil and red rouge. This one is designed specifically for polishing the balance staff pivot as well as the tip of the staff. The second "Jacot Style" is my moseley staff polisher. These can be hard to find in good working condition the channel or groove the pivot sits on can be filed down to much from the motion of a file running back and forth on it. It works extremely well for polishing pivots as well reducing the size of a pivot to remove grooves caused by wear. I use 2 types The first one is the traditional Jacot Lathe. They are a requirement for 1st class work. ![]()
